Apostille
A certificate authenticating a public document for legal use in another participating country.
An apostille is issued by a designated state authority, commonly the Secretary of State, certifying the authenticity of a notary’s commission or an official’s signature so the document is recognized abroad.
It authenticates the official who signed, not the contents. Countries outside the applicable convention use a different legalization process.
