# RON (Remote Online Notarization)

Also called: remote online notarization, online notary, remote notary

Notarization performed over live audio-video with identity verification, producing a digitally signed and sealed record.

In a RON session the signer appears by live audio-video, passes identity verification, and signs electronically while the notary applies a digital seal. The session is recorded and retained under the rules of the notary’s commissioning state.

Acceptance depends on the commissioning state’s authority and on whether the receiving party (a lender, title company, or county recorder) accepts electronically notarized documents.

## Why it matters

RON removes travel from a signing, which matters most for out-of-state sellers, deployed service members, and anyone closing across time zones.
